The San Diego Experience

Pacific Beach easy-going vibe since the end of WWII-1945 doesn't seem like a place for a high rise Airbnb hotel and luxury apartments
The "Cool" is Over
The unique character of the 52 neighborhoods was the pride of the city until 2010 when urbanization and collecting more taxes became the #1 goal under the mantra "we need more affordable housing"

The Mantra of Our Politicians is Anything Created Pre-Internet is Outdated and Useless

Single Family Zoning is Over in San Diego

Older, smaller, and historic buildings are being torn down to make way for high-rise luxury apartments, and ADUs/Granny Flats fill single family home lots. This change to zoning began with Airbnb's pre-IPO offering. Airbnb had to end zoning to grow fast and a lot, to attract big institutional investors like Vanguard and pension funds.

SAVE PB CAMPAIGN ORGANIZED BY LOCALS

if you like pacific beach as is and disagree with our politicians

#1) Turquoise street to remain as is...and not get a 23-story tower of luxury housing and airbnb rentals,

#2) Chalcedony/Pacifica TO REMAIN AS IS...AND NOT GET 136 ADUs in a residential neighborhood next to military housing

...email the mayor & city council, and tell them, no!

email the mayor: mayortoddgloria@sandiego.gov,

email the president of the city council: joelacava@sandiego.gov

Details: Beach properties page

An email is a legal document, the city has to record your opinion and save the email for 5 years. signing a petition is good for uniting a community but a change.org petition is not a legal document that the city has to acknowledge; It will help the local planning group build a mailing list and to solicit donors.

Thank you, Toots, April 2026

Pacific Beach is family friendly with a surfer vibe...until the high rise on Turquoise Street ruins it (will fill the 4 lots with palm trees on left)
